THE LEMONADE WAR

In the book The Lemonade War by Jacqueline Davies, two siblings, brother and sister, start a lemonade war. In the beginning, the author introduces the main characters as Jessie and Evan. On a hot summer day, Jessie challenges Evan to a lemonade war. She agrees. But after the war started, Jessie realized: who is going to help me sell lemonade? Soon the idea comes: I’ll get Megan Moriarty. Both Evan and Jessie are doing good on sales until it gets dirty: sabotaging lemonade and stealing money happens! But heading towards the end of the book, the two forgive each other and watch the beautiful fireworks.
The book is terrific and interesting. Kids with siblings could probably relate to Evan and Jessie’s problems and understand the book better. I would recommend this book to kids who like fiction biography, because the story narrates the fictional life of two kids. Or to kids who are in 3-5th grade, because it’s in their grade level and they would understand the plot and wording a bit easier. Kids 8-12 might enjoy the book with all the unexpected twists.
En el libro The Lemonade War de Jacqueline Davies, dos hermanos inician una guerra de limonadas. La autora los presenta como Jessie y Evan, y en un día caluroso de verano Jessie reta a Evan a una guerra de limonadas. Ella acepta, pero una vez iniciada la guerra se pregunta: ¿Quién me ayudará con las ventas? La respuesta llega pronto: Megan Moriarty. Tanto a Evan como a Jessie les va bien con las ventas, pero de pronto todo se volvió sucio: ¡sabotaje y robo! Al final, los dos se perdonan y disfrutan de los fuegos artificiales.
El libro es muy interesante e increíble. Niños con hermanos podrán disfrutar mejor del libro porque se identificarán con Jessie y Evan. Lo recomiendo para niños que les guste las biografías ficticias, porque la historia narra la vida ficticia de dos niños. También para niños que cursan 3o o 5to de primaria, pues podrán entender la trama y todas las palabras. Y niños entre 8 y 12 años lo disfrutarán por sus giros de tuerca.

She wants to be a writer when she grows up; she loves to talk about story ideas and write them based on her family, they give her inspiration to write. Maya was typing on the computer since she was 5 years old. Most of her family are teachers: her mom and her nana. Maya started writing now because she wanted to correct mistakes and know how to write perfectly, like her tío Mike. She lets her heart flow free when she is writing and reading, that is a big part of her life. Reading takes Maya’s mind to another world, a fantasy world. She also likes doing gymnastics, she is a pro at that.
