Hi, I am Maya Christensen and I am going to tell you about one of my favorite book series: Star Darlings.

SAGE AND THE JOURNEY TO WISHWORLD

Sage and the Journey to Wishworld is amazing and full of new adventures. It starts when a star in outer space is really a planet called Starland, and Starland is full of Starlings. Starlings are like human, except they sparkle and have different sayings (for example, moonimum means a million). They have powers and go to a famous school called Starling Academy. But the reason why the book is interesting is because 12 special Starlings from that school are chosen to be in a secret club called Star Darlings. In there, they wait for a good wish orb to appear. The wish orb will locate which Starling is best for granting that wish/mission, and Sage is chosen and had a success of a mission. 

 

Sage and the Journey to Wishworld es impresionante y está lleno de aventuras. Todo empieza con una estrella en el espacio exterior que en realidad es un planeta llamado Starland, y en Starland viven los Starlings. Los Starlings son como humanos, pero brillan y utilizan diferentes expresiones al hablar (por ejemplo, moonimun significa un millón). Tienen poderes y asisten a una famosa escuela llamada Starling Academy. Pero la verdadera razón por la que este libro es interesante es que eligen a 12 Starlings especiales para integrarse al club secreto Star Darlings. Ahí, esperan a que aparezca una esfera de buenos deseos; ésta sabrá cuál Starling es la adecuada para concederle su deseo/misión. Sage es la elegida y tendrá una misión exitosa.

LIBBY AND THE CLASS ELECTION

Libby and the Class Election was a great book with a lot of challenges. When Libby went down to Wishworld, it was hard to find the wisher that grant her the wish, but she completed her mission (with a little of strength here and there and a sprinkle of confidence, it was a strong well done mission). Libby collected a lot of wish energy. Wish energy is why the Starlings go down to Wishworld: they have to collect enough of that to complete their missions.

Libby and the Class Election es un gran libro lleno de retos. Cuando Libby bajó a Wishworld, le fue muy difícil encontrar a su “deseante” para que le concediera su deseo, pero completó la misión (con un poquito de fuerza y una pizca de confianza, logró hacer una muy buena misión). Libby juntó mucha “energía de deseo”. La energía de deseo es por lo que los Starlings bajan a Wishworld: tienen que juntar la suficiente para completar sus misiones.

LEONA’S UNLUCKY MISSION

Leona’s Unlucky Mission is a sad but exciting story. The unlucky part was when the wish orb that picked her turned black, which means that the wisher forgot about the wish. Leona had not smiled since she came back to school without enough wish energy and she did not even talk to her fellows in Star Darlings. She only felt better when her old roommate, Scarlet, moved out because she found out her score was mixed up. So Leona had a new roommate named Ophelia, and after that Leona started putting a grin on.

Leona’s Unlucky Mission es una historia triste pero emocionante a la vez. La parte triste es cuando la esfera del deseo que eligió a Leona se volvió negra, lo que significa que el “deseante” olvidó su deseo. Leona no volvió a sonreír cuando llegó a la escuela sin la suficiente energía de deseo; ni siquiera hablaba con sus compañeros de Star Darlings. Sólo se sintió mejor cuando Scarlet, su antigua compañera de cuarto, se mudó al enterarse que sus calificaciones estaban alteradas y llegó Ophelia. Desde entonces, Leona volvió a sonreír.

VEGA AND THE FASHION DISASTER

Vega and the Fashion Disaster was a great book. There was this girl that always was telling something but nobody heard her, until she said her mom was a famous fashion designer. The truth was that her mom was the housekeeper of a famous fashion designer. Next week was “Bring your parent to school” day, and she had to lie: she said her mom couldn’t make it because she was in Paris. So, Vega had to help her to tell the truth, and nobody cared that she lied: they just wanted to know how to make clothes like her.

Vega and the Fashion Disaster es un gran libro. Érase una niña que siempre decía cosas pero nadie la escuchaba. Hasta que dijo que su mamá era una famosa diseñadora de moda. La verdad es que su mamá sólo era la ama de llaves de una famosa diseñadora de moda. Como la siguiente semana era el día de “Trae a tus papás a la escuela”, tuvo que inventar que su mamá no podría asistir porque estaba en París. Así que Vega le ayudó a decir la verdad, y descubrió que a nadie le interesaba que hubiera mentido: sólo querían aprender a diseñar ropa como la de ella.

SCARLET DISCOVERS TRUE STRENGTH

In Scarlet Discovers True Strength, the new Starling that took Scarlet’s place, Ophelia, went down to Wishworld and everything she was given was broken and did not work. So, Scarlet went down there and helped her out. But it turned out that it was Scarlet’s mission and not Ophelia’s, so Ophelia got kicked out of the club and they put Scarlet back in it.

En Scarlet Discovers True Strength, Ophelia, la nueva Starling que reemplazó a Scarlet, baja a Wishworld, pero todo lo que le dan está roto y no funciona. Por lo que Scarlet baja para ayudarla. Sin embargo, descubren que esa no era la misión de Ophelia, sino la de Scarlet. Así que botan a Ophelia del club y regresan a Scarlet.

CASSIE COMES THROUGH

In Cassie Comes Through, Cassie suddenly feels ready for another wish mission. Her only question is: who is going to Wishworld to grant the next good wish? By calculations, Cassie is the next one. With a knot in her stomach, she finally feels like she is going to be brave enough to go on this mission. When she comes back to Starland with enough wish energy, she receives her power crystal, the Lunalite. It is a really special power crystal, and Cassie’s mission might have been the most successful wish mission ever, with no mistakes.

En Cassie Comes Through, Cassie se siente lista para una misión. Sólo se pregunta quién será la siguiente en bajar a Wishworld para que le concedan su deseo. Calculando, ella es la siguiente. Con un nudo en el estómago, siente que será lo suficientemente valiente para embarcarse en la misión. Cuando regresa a Starland con suficiente energía de deseo, recibe su cristal de poder, el Lunalite, que es realmente un cristal de poder muy especial. La misión sin errores de Cassie puede ser la misión más exitosa de la historia.

PIPER’S PERFECT DREAM

In Piper’s Perfect Dream, Piper is a dream journalist and believes that dreams are clues to something that might happen. She was correct when she dreamed that she was the next to go on a wish mission. The wisher wished to get a lie told out:  that her friends cheated on a test and got an A+. The wisher’s mom got mad, but did not blame her. So, Piper had a successful mission .

En Piper’s Perfect Dream, Piper es una periodista del sueño y cree que los sueños son claves de algo que puede suceder. No se equivocó cuando soñó que sería la siguiente en la misión. La “deseante” deseaba confesar una mentira: que sus amigas habían hecho trampa en el examen para tener una buena calificación. La mamá de la deseante se enojó, pero no la culpó del todo. Así que la misión de Piper fue exitosa.

ASTRA’S MIXED-UP MISSION

In Astra’s Mixed-Up Mission, this girl wanted her family to know what her real talent was. They thought it was gymnastics, but it was art. Astra had a big speech: that she was always had been there for them. So, they turned to be there for her and she won the art competition at her school. Her father was happy, because she did what she does best. Astra won a trophy and hung it on the wall.

En Astra’s Mixed-Up Mission, una niña desea que su familia sepa cuál es su verdadero talento. Ellos piensan que es la gimnasia, pero es el arte. Por lo que Astra habla con ellos, diciéndoles que ella siempre había estado ahí para ellos. La familia decide apoyarla y gana la competencia escolar de arte. Su papá se pone muy feliz, porque hizo lo que realmente le gustaba hacer. Astra ganó un trofeo y lo colgó de la pared.

Maya Christensen is 8 years old and loves to read and write. She  wants to be a writer when she grows up; she loves to talk about story ideas and write them based on her family, they give her inspiration to write. Maya was typing on the computer since she was 5 years old. Most of her family are teachers: her mom, her nana and her tio Mike. Maya started  writing now because she wanted to correct mistakes and know how to write perfectly, like her tío  Mike. She lets her heart flow free when she is writing and reading, that is a big part of her life. Reading takes Maya’s mind to another world, a fantasy world.  She also likes doing gymnastics, she is a pro at that.

 

Maya Christensen tiene 8 años y ama leer y escribir. Cuando crezca quiere ser una escritora. Le encanta compartir sus ideas para cuentos y escribirlas, basándose en su familia, que es su inspiración. Maya escribe en la computadora desde que tiene 5 años. Varios miembros de su familia son maestros, como su mamá, abuela y tío Mike. Maya comenzó a escribir esta columna porque quiere corregir errores y aprender a escribir perfectamente, como su tío Mike. Maya deja que su corazón fluya libremente cuando lee y escribe; es una parte importantísima de su vida. Leer traslada su mente a otro mundo, a uno de fantasía. También le gusta la gimnasia, es toda una profesional.
